odino 1,263
Edizione quasi burla quella di Helsinki. Manco una settimana di durata e tantissimi forfait pre Olimpiade. odino 1,263
Ad Omaha Phelps batte Lochte nei 200sl: 1-1. 2012 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS - D3Phelps Wins Rematch and Franklin Makes Her Mark Michael Phelps won round 2 against Ryan Lochte in the men’s 200m free, and Missy Franklin set an American record in the women’s 100m backstroke Wednesday at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Both Phelps and Franklin earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team for their efforts. Also securing trips to London were Breeja Larson with a win in the women’s 100m breaststroke, Matt Grevers with a win in the men’s 100m backstroke, and Ricky Berens and Conor Dwyer with third- and fourth-place finishes in the men’s 200m free. Finishing second in finals Wednesday were Lochte in the men’s 200m free, Rachel Bootsma in the women’s 100m back, Nick Thoman in the men’s 100m back and Rebecca Soni in the women’s 100m breast. Lochte qualified for the team after winning the 400m IM on the first night of finals. The other second-place finishers from Wednesday will likely be added to the team pending swimmers qualifying in multiple events. The fifth- and sixth-place finishers in the men’s 200m free – Matt McLean and Charlie Houchin – may also be added to the team pending swimmers qualifying in multiple events. Men’s 200m FreeWednesday’s finals featured another marquee match-up between Phelps and Lochte in the men’s 200m freestyle. On the first night of finals, Lochte came out on top with a win in the 400m IM. This time it would be Phelps, but by the closest of margins. Phelps jumped out ahead of the Lochte and the rest of the field from the start, but Lochte stuck right at his shoulders the whole way. At the 100-meter mark, Phelps flipped with a .06-second lead. His margin slipped to five-hundredths of a second at the third and final turn, and Lochte momentarily took the lead coming off the wall. The two went stroke for stroke down the homestretch, with Phelps sneaking his hand on the wall first, touching in 1:45.70. Lochte was second in 1:45.75, followed by Berens in 1:46.56, Dwyer in 1:46.64, McLean in 1:46.78 and Houchin in 1:46.88. With their swims, Phelps and Lochte turned in the third- and fourth-fastest times in the world this year. “Obviously it’s been a while (since I beat Lochte),” Phelps said. “It felt better, but there are still some things I can improve on, especially the turns. I got crushed on the wall. I tried to sort of use more speed than anything else. It’s OK, but there are still some things I can work on.” Lochte congratulated Phelps on a great race. “Any time you go up on the block and race other U.S. swimmers, it’s going to be a race,” Lochte said. “You aren’t going to go out there and be by yourself. It was a good race. I’m happy with my time, but hopefully in London I’ll be a lot faster.”

While the comebacks of Janet Evans and Ed Moses came up short at this year’s Trials, 2000 Olympic gold medalist Anthony Ervin’s bid to make his second Olympic team stayed alive tonight with his top seed in the semifinals of the 100 freestyle. His time of 21.74 edged National Champion Nathan Adrian and the rest of the field and is tied for the third-fastest time in the world this year. “That was a best time for me, and that’s what it’s all about,” said Ervin, who retired from the sport in 2003. “We’ll see what happens tomorrow night. Then you may want to write something about me.”

odino 1,263
2012 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS - D7 Phelps e Franklin sugli scudi. Michael Phelps won his fourth event of the meet Sunday at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, taking the men’s 100m butterfly with a time of 51.14. That accomplishment makes him eligible to swim eight events at the 2012 Olympic Games – the 100 fly, the 200 fly, the 200 IM, the 400 IM, the 200 freestyle and all three relays. It’s the same program he followed in his historic eight-gold-medal run in Beijing, though his status in the 400 free relay is up in the air. Phelps did not compete in the 100m freestyle last week in Omaha, but any swimmer on the Olympic roster can be added to a relay at the head coach’s discretion. “It shows that I can do this program at a high level again,” Phelps said. “I think we were struggling over the last few years doing one at this level. It will be good to get home and start working toward London.” Other swimmers winning events Sunday included Missy Franklin in the women’s 200m backstroke (2:06.12), Katie Ledecky in the women’s 800m freestyle (8:19.78) and Cullen Jones in the men’s 50m freestyle (21.59). It was Franklin’s second win of the meet after taking the 100 back on day 3. Like Phelps, she has qualified in multiple events this week – the 100 back, the 200 back, the 100 free, the 200 free and is eligible to swim in all three relays. She is the first American female swimmer in history to qualify for the Olympic Games in seven events. “The whole week has gone really well, just as well as (coach Todd Schmitz) and I could have asked for,” Franklin said. “We’re so thrilled. I can’t believe I have seven events. It’s so overwhelming and so exciting at the same time. I’m going to focus on the small things now and hopefully be better in London.” Second-place finishers Sunday were Elizabeth Beisel in the women’s 200 back (2:07.58), Tyler McGill in the men’s 100 fly (51.32), Kate Ziegler in the women’s 800 free (8:21.87) and Anthony Ervin in the men’s 50 free (21.60). Each of these swimmers will be added to the Olympic roster in each of those events. Also added to the Olympic roster Sunday were the fifth and sixth-place swimmers from the men’s and women’s 100m and 200m freestyles. Qualifying for the team in these spots were Jimmy Feigen and Jason Lezak in the men’s 400 free relay; Matt McLean and Charlie Houchin in the men’s 800 free relay; Amanda Weir and Natalie Coughin in the women’s 400 free relay; and Shannon Vreeland and Alyssa Anderson in the women’s 800 free relay. Coach Bob Bowman tweeted Monday that Phelps was scratching the 200-meter freestyle, and the decision was confirmed by U.S. head coach Gregg Troy.
